Dragonball: Evolution Bombs!

I guess to the millions and millions of Dragonball fans around the world or at least those in the USA have seen what many will say one of the greatest animes of all time turned to Live Action bomb this Easter Weekend. Yes as its reporting right now, opening in just 2100 theaters in the US, Dragonball: Evolution has made just $6.7 million putting it in 5th place. Taking the top spot this weekend was Hannah Montana The Movie, no shocker there as well as in 2nd place Fast & Furious.

For all the Dragonball fans this is a sad day indeed. I was very hopeful and thought that the movie would at least bring in the very least 20mill opening weekend, but not even breaking 10 million is a bow to FOX and to the future of the series. There are many fans who would much rather them not and many are even screaming Reboot. I think it’s very clear this movie was effect by bootlegging online as many saw a 70% version and stay away.

The movie had many problems, yes taking away the fact this was base off Dragonball, simply movie plot devices where missing and just was over all poorly done for whats being reported as being done for 45Million. Form the strong opening weekend the movie had in most Asia markets in March, the amount of marketing that did go into the movie there its clear that FOX had very little faith this movie would do well in the USA, the market in which most big blockbusters do well in.

I know many fans saw this and then jump on message boards and blogs screaming boycott and even bad word of mouth doomed this movie. Maybe it was just my hope that it couldn’t be as bad as it was turning out to be and goes right to my theory that FOX had no faith in this movie, either in the people who made it or the source itself. Many people say Dragonball is far too silly to be done in live action. People who say this do not understand film making. You can make anything in live action if you as the film makers believe in it. Once you don’t believe in it, then it wont work. Such as Bulma having blue hair. It can work if you believe and do your best. Its clear they didn’t. Same can be apply to Goku’s hair. It could have been better, but they believed it be silly.

So there you have it, finally after years and years of rumors, debates over what could be the first official live action dragonball z movie, we get it. Sadly its going to find its place soon in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart for $5 bucks and any hardcore fans may pick it up cheap simply to have it and place it right next to Dragonball the Magic Begins.
