There was no hacker, the site was never at any time under an attack from the hacker. Myself and Majin Trunks came up with a great idea to pull a Halloween gag on the members of Majin Planet. It wen off great. We had a road bump at the start but it work out for the best. The 4 days of down time we had at the start of the month was planned/not planned. I used it so I could move the site to a new host, in no shape or form was it because we where hacked. In fact I was growing sick of my old host as the months went out and it was only a matter of time.
Now the big question was, was there ever a moment where you could have figure it out before the 31st? Yes there was a number of times you could have figure it out. The first one was a video, the video is a spoof of the Ring Trailer, which I made a few days before Oct 1st. I made 3 different cuts of the video, everyone has seen at least 2 so far. The 2nd one is likely the one everyone missed because of an issue that came up out of my control. Also in the video was text, which I now realize was far to hard to see, but it basically said this was a joke created by us. See the next part to find out who "us" is.
The next clue was once the site was fully up, at the bottom of the main site, there was every other day a link called Hunted1942, which lead you to the 2nd cut of the video. On the 11th, 9th, 14th and 22nd there was a clue next to the link that simple said H1:NU, H9:PMT, H4:DCG and H2:KOK. They are the keys to who was behind the gag, each number is the member of the site, I think if you look you can figure that one out easy. H simple means Hunter.
The next gag I did was early in the month where on the online page you would see that majinMEB appear on the list, always on the top which said "Looking at you" which linked to an old archive page of Majin Planet, online time "Forever" I randomly added this code over Oct 5th to Oct 10th. I also added a sound bite from the latest movie remake Halloween in the background. I thought it was funny and scary at the same time. I also randomly only few a few days added the remake version of the Halloween Theme song that played in the background on the main control panel page.
By far the biggest gag was the floating ghost on the random pages. I put this code on the site on random times over the month from the info pages, features pages and the home page. Every time someone would bring it up I would say "I don't see anything". Which if your smart you know that was a line. I have to hand it to Majin Cray for figuring out where the ghost was coming from. But he didn't put two and two together. After all why would a hacker upload the ghost to the image folder and then the javascript to the javascript folder.
Now not everyone of the gags I did worked, the one that really failed and I kind of didn't think about it until I did it was when the King of Kings came on the board as majinMEB1942, the email we used was the same as the one in the fake email, which was needed to insure that everyone knew it was real. Anyway's the idea was to drag this gag out all the way to Do or Die where the hacker and I have a match. Not thinking that no one would vote for him, which when I shot the idea to the King of Kings he liked it, but we both where hit when everyone reply that it was a stupid idea for the "hacker" to even make such a call out. So other then trying to make it happen I decided to just kill that gag then and there, which is why we never login with him again.
I also had another failed gag on the 28th when I plan to have the site hacked again, with the 2nd cut of the video, with text saying "it wont stop", etc. Well I plan for the site to be down a full day, but the server end up going down for real half the night and Verto caught me online and told me the site had been hacked again. I when I notice the site was really down I had to put it back up, made my little post (which if you read it doesn't really sound like we got hacked) and so it kind of was a bummer.
The final clue was that in the Halloween Bash image on the main page had the key to what 1942 means, which I explain above. Now I know many fans are going to be pissed off about this, because I know some of you where really upset about the site and some of you even offer me money to pay for the hosting cost. I hope you wont be made at us and know it was a gag, like a Hunted house if you will. I didn't really have much time to come up with working stuff as myself and Majin Trunks kind of came up with this at the last minute.
Final Notes:
- the reason the name Majin Mebs was used in the form of majinMEB was that it was the ghost of Majin Mebs, but because more saw it as a hacker attack then the site being haunted, it was the reason the s on Mebs was cut off and it was always spelled majinMEB.
The logo used for the hacker majinMEB is done in the same style as the Majin Planet Logo
Only Majin Trunks and DaCoolGohan go really pissed off and you can tell that what they said was force on.
The King of Kings didn't say anything because he never says anything.
In closing it was fun and if you sit back and think about it, its got to be the best thing we've ever done. It might not go down in history as the best thing ever done on a fan site (after all what DBZSC did with the fake DBZ Movie Trailer for April Fools was great) but no other web site would do this much for you, that is why we're Majin Planet and thats why we're the best.
